Flying Dragon Temple
Feilong Temple is located in the hinterland of Yingfeng Mountain, Longwo Town, Zijin County, Heyuan City, Guangdong Province. It is situated in the core area of Tianniangya Local Nature Reserve, with an altitude of about 900 meters. The temple is built against the verdant mountains, with its back leaning against the main peak of Yingfeng Mountain. From afar, it looks like an eagle spreading its wings, with a clear and distant artistic conception. According to local literature and folk oral records, the temple was built during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty, accompanying the establishment history of Yong'an County (now Zijin County). It has a history of more than 400 years and is one of the oldest Buddhist cultural holy sites in Zijin County.
Feilong Temple is named after the shape of Yingfeng Mountain - the mountain is like an eagle and the aura is like a dragon. Therefore, "Feilong" symbolizes the soaring of Buddhism and the salvation of all sentient beings. During the Ming and Qing dynasties, the temple was located next to the ancient post road in eastern Guangdong, with a constant flow of monks and laypeople coming and going, and the incense was flourishing. At that time, it was not only a center of local beliefs, but also a gathering place for literati and the integration of Zen and art, leaving behind many inscriptions and steles, carrying profound cultural heritage.
Since modern times, although temples have gone through vicissitudes and many buildings have been damaged and dilapidated, the lineage of the Dharma has not disappeared, and the original architectural sites still exist today. Due to the steep terrain and inconvenient transportation, the mountain climbing roads have not been connected for many years, and the reconstruction work of the temple has been restricted for a long time. Currently, only temporary buildings are used to maintain basic religious activities. At the end of 2025, with the joint support of local villagers and Ten Good Faith, the construction of the mountain climbing road will officially begin, and it is expected to be fully connected by mid February 2026. After the completion of the road, Feilong Temple will gradually initiate the overall reconstruction project of the temple, in order to restore the solemn style of the ancient temple.
Today, Feilong Temple is entering a new stage of development while preserving its original historical site. In the future, the temple will adhere to the principle of "repairing the old as before and inheriting it in an orderly manner", reproduce the traditional three courtyard layout, and improve various religious and cultural facilities. The temple will continue to promote the orthodox Buddhist teachings, practice compassion and benefit life, and rely on the ecological advantages of Yingfeng Mountain Nature Reserve to promote the integration of Zen and nature. It is committed to becoming a humanistic practice space that can not only settle the body and mind, but also enlighten the soul.
Feilong Temple will continue to uphold the fine traditions of Buddhism, inherit the historical context, and establish good relationships with people from all over the world. In the new era, it will write a new chapter of ancient temples that are pure, solemn, joyful, and emotional.
